Sustainability

Sustainability at MONOCHROME

We believe there are 3 parts to the sustainability equation and we manufacturers are responsible for a large part followed by you, the consumer.

First, materials. Leather is made from animal skin, in our case, sheepskins. We try to use leather from animals that were raised in a way that didn't harm them and the environment. It means choosing leather from animals that were treated well, allowed to roam freely, and not raised in overcrowded places.

Next, production. Making leather jackets can sometimes be harmful to the environment because it uses a lot of water and chemicals. We try to minimize the impact by using eco-friendly methods. By using processes that use less water and fewer harmful chemicals and also by recycling and reducing waste during the production process.

Sustainable fashion also cares about the people who work with leather. They make sure that the workers are treated fairly, paid well, and have safe working conditions. They also make sure that the leather is sourced responsibly and doesn't contribute to deforestation or harm indigenous communities.

Sustainable fashion is about making conscious choices regarding the materials we use. We source our leather from tanneries that are Leather Working Group (LWG) certified.

In addition to material choices, sustainable production practices play a vital role in minimizing our impact on the environment. Our tanneries have implemented eco-friendly methods that reduce water usage and limit the amount of harmful chemicals involved in the tanning process. Our aim is to strike a balance between producing high-quality leather jackets and safeguarding our precious ecosystems.

But sustainability isn't just about the environment; it's also about the people involved in the process. We value our workers and prioritize their well-being. Fair treatment, fair wages, and safe working conditions are fundamental principles we adhere to. Moreover, we ensure that our leather sourcing is responsible, without contributing to deforestation or exploiting indigenous communities.

Lastly, I want to address the issue of waste. We recognize the importance of minimizing waste in the fashion industry. To combat this, we create leather jackets that are not only stylish and durable but also intended to stand the test of time. We encourage our customers to repair their jackets instead of discarding them and provide options for recycling or upcycling old jackets to give them a new life.

My dear students, I want to impress upon you the significance of sustainability in the fashion industry. It is our responsibility as leaders and innovators of tomorrow to shape a world where fashion and the environment coexist harmoniously. Together, we can make a difference by supporting brands and businesses that prioritize sustainable practices.

Remember, as you embark on your journey into the fashion industry, always keep in mind the three pillars of sustainability: conscious material choices, environmentally friendly production methods, and waste reduction. Let us work together to create a future where fashion is not just a means of self-expression but also a force for positive change.

Thank you for your attention, and may you all embrace sustainability in your personal and professional lives.
